Install and first launch

MyTwig needs Git 2.32 or later on your computer. It uses your own Git, with your config, credentials, hooks and signing keys.

The quickest way is the download page, which picks the right file for your system. Or install from a terminal as below.

Requires macOS 12 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.

Install with the script:

Terminal window
curl -fsSL https://mytwig.herosizy.dev/install.sh | sh

The script checks the download’s signature, puts MyTwig in /Applications (or ~/Applications when that is not writable) and opens it. Run it with --uninstall to remove the app; your settings are kept.

Or with Homebrew:

Terminal window
brew install --cask herosizy/tap/mytwig

Or download the .dmg for your Mac (Apple silicon or Intel) and drag MyTwig to Applications.

If you installed from the .dmg, macOS asks once before opening an app downloaded from the internet:

  • macOS 15 and later: open the app, click Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
  • macOS 12 to 14: Control-click the app, choose Open, then click Open again.

The install script and Homebrew skip this step.

MyTwig finds Git on your PATH and where Homebrew, MacPorts and macOS put it, and uses the newest one that is 2.32 or later. If there is none, the window tells you how to install it: the Xcode command line tools (xcode-select --install) or brew install git. To pick another Git, see Settings → Git → Git executable.

Requires Windows 10 or 11, x64 or ARM64.

Install with PowerShell:

Terminal window
irm https://mytwig.herosizy.dev/install.ps1 | iex

The script checks the installer’s SHA-256 checksum and runs it silently.

Or with Scoop:

Terminal window
scoop bucket add herosizy https://github.com/HeroSizy/scoop-bucket
scoop install herosizy/mytwig

Or download the installer (MyTwig Setup <version> amd64.exe or arm64.exe), or the portable .tar.gz, from the download page. If SmartScreen appears the first time, click More info → Run anyway.

Install Git for Windows if you don’t have Git yet.

Requires x64 or ARM64, GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1.

Terminal window
curl -fsSL https://mytwig.herosizy.dev/install.sh | sh

On Debian and Ubuntu the script installs the .deb; on other distributions it installs the tarball. You can also download either from the download page.

MyTwig checks for a new version every 30 minutes and when it starts. When one is found, it shows the release notes and offers to install it; the new version runs the next time you open the app. Every update is signed with an Ed25519 key and checked against the key built into the app before it is installed.

  • MyTwig → Check for Updates… checks now.
  • Settings → General → Updates turns the checks on or off, and can install updates without asking.

If you installed with Homebrew or Scoop, you can also update through them.

  • macOS: run the install script with --uninstall, or brew uninstall --cask mytwig, or drag the app to the Trash. Settings live in ~/Library/Application Support/MyTwig.
  • Windows: uninstall from Settings → Apps, or scoop uninstall mytwig.
  • Linux: sudo apt remove mytwig for the .deb, or delete the extracted folder.
